Women’s self-defense classes offer a wide range of approaches and processes designed to keep women safe at all times. Some of the subjects covered in women’s self-defense classes include:
Not only that, but women’s self-defense classes have some healthy and positive side effects. Participation naturally and organically builds up confidence, strength, awareness, and fitness. The supportive community at KMI helps to foster all of these benefits.
Self defense is the most straightforward way to avoid dangerous situations and protect yourself. It’s always better to avoid a violent attack then to go through one and attempt to survive it. Women’s self defense classes don’t only teach practical and effective martial arts, but also cover numerous ways to avoid and navigate dangerous situations.
A lot of perpetrators choose women as their victims because women are seen as passive and less likely to fight back. There are many ways for women to protect themselves from their attackers but they must be able to physically protect themselves from their attackers if they ever get assaulted again.
The #metoo movement has shown that women are very much still targets. Even if a direct physical response to a threat is not required, our women’s self-defense classes teach situational awareness, threat recognition, and the confidence to know how to respond appropriately.

Women are often seen as vulnerable and easy targets, and some frightening numbers seem to support that notion. In fact, here are some alarming statistics:
Those grim numbers show that no woman is ever completely safe. A lot of perpetrators choose women as their victims because women are seen as passive and less likely to fight back. This does not have to be so, and women can use this perceived passivity to their advantage. There are many ways for women to protect themselves from their attackers but they must be able to physically protect themselves from their attackers if they ever get assaulted again.
The focus at KMI has always been to offer the highest quality self defense and fighting training to adults, kids and professionals. However, there’s no denying that one of the foundations of a strong mind and body, and your ability to defend yourselves and others, is professional level physical & mental strength and fitness training. Specialized strength and fitness are important factors in getting the most out of life (and your self defense training). This is why we introduced Combat Cardio Kickboxing (C2 Kickboxing) and Combat and Fighting Skills L1 classes as part of our S.P.E.C. fitness program (S.P.E.C. stands for Specialized Physical Education Courses).
KMI is a modern self-defense and strength and fitness center. It is not a boring gym; we provide training in self-defense, fighting skills, mental and physical toughness and fitness. The fitness program was originally designed to complement the self defense training but it proved so popular that we formed a full schedule of standalone classes that can burn up to 2000 calories per class. Fitness is the bedrock of our training so it deserves its own class and also doesn’t interfere with your self defense training. C2 Kickboxing, Combat and Fighting L1 and our other S.P.E.C. programs promote a positive and robust mindset, elite-level strength and fitness, awareness, quality of life, good health and ultimately, longevity.
Sometimes you just need to know how to fight. The flip side to the self defense coin is fighting skills. None of the self defense techniques you learn will help you in real life if you cannot strike or kick effectively under pressure or you lack the requisite force, strength, form, resolve or aggression.
Fighting class prepares you for the street because it tests your ability to perform the techniques you learn in class work so you can successfully defend yourself. Fighting classes the first Tuesday night of every month for P1 students and above. Full protection gear is required for this class.
For those wanting to fine tune their skills or to kick start their regular training with one to one tuition. We offer an introductory service to assist you to arrange a private training schedule with any of our experienced instructor team members. For many people, weekly classes may not be a reality – we all lead busy lives, packed with busy schedules. We believe that this should not affect your ability to train, and our instructors love to train – just as much as you!
A typical lesson includes self related fitness and aggression drills designed to assist the learning process by reinforcing natural movements and reactions that are used in KMI’s techniques. The drills also get you incredibly fit. Your ability to stay safe and defend yourself effectively depends on a number of factors including knowledge and your ability to remember, perform, and carry out certain techniques.
Our Group Interval Training classes are designed to train you to peak physical condition while having fun in a supportive community.
Whiplash. 30 minute jump rope interval training class. Endurance, power, strength in 30 minutes.
Kettlebells for strength and power allowing a complete strength training experience that works the entire musculature. Working from the core to the lesser muscle groups, this technique uses functional and combative movements to make you a stronger and more agile fighter.
Short Circuit. Outdoor Fitness boot camps including running and short circuit training classes.
Our supplementary combatives program includes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. Training in these specific disciplines will reinforce techniques learned in self-defense classes. In particular, Muay Thai will reinforce striking skills. These classes are also highly cardio-vascular and improve strength and fitness, particularly core strength.
