WHAT WILL I LEARN?
With KMI NYC, you’ll learn Krav Maga – a combative and practical martial art that uses techniques from boxing, kickboxing, and more.
Through the course, you’ll learn:
- To effectively and realistically use punches, kicks, knees, and elbows to defend yourself.
- To escape bear hugs, hair grabs, and choke holds from larger and stronger opponents.
- To handle and disable armed attackers.
- To use your own belongings to protect yourself.

While you’ll learn great combative self-defense skills, we believe it’s always better to prevent or avoid a dangerous situation.
This is why our skills-based and practical women’s self-defense classes also include strategies for detection, prevention, avoidance, and navigating dangerous situations.

Our 75 minute induction class is the starting point of your journey to build confidence, strengthen your mental fortitude and develop technical & tactical skills, through our game-changing methods.
WOMEN’S SELF-DEFENSE CLASSES FAQ’S
Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art considered the world’s most complete and effective reality-based self-defense system.
It was first developed in the late 1930s by Hungarian-born athlete Imrich Lichtenfield and was later used to train the Israeli Defense Forces in the 1940s.
It draws on several other disciplines like boxing, Muay Thai, and wrestling to give women a reliable tool for protection.
The words “Krav Maga” means “contact/close combat” in Hebrew.
Our women’s martial arts lessons in NYC are designed to be accessible to people of all fitness levels.
During classes, you’ll take part in cardiovascular exercises, strength training, and flexibility drills to quickly build up your fitness.
Remember, the goal of Krav Maga is not to turn you into a professional athlete overnight but to equip you with practical self-defense skills while improving your overall fitness.
As you progress, your fitness level will improve naturally through consistent training.
We recommend simple athletic wear for your first induction class.
Once you pass our process and become a KMI NYC member, you’ll be given a uniform.
Our women’s classes are held at 6pm EDT every Wednesday in our TriBeCa studio and last one hour.
No two Krav Maga classes are exactly the same as you’ll constantly be learning and trialling new self-defense techniques.
All our classes will start with a warm-up and mobility drill to get you ready for the lesson ahead.
New York law states that if the use of force is justified, it cannot be criminal. In other words, you can’t use deadly force unless you reasonably believe there’s a credible threat to your life, serious injury, kidnapping, robbery, or rape.

If you have an average fitness level and train consistently 2-3 times a week, you can master Krav Maga and reach black belt in around 40 months.
Our women’s self-defense Foundation Programme is a 12-month course designed to transform you from a beginner to a high-level Krav Maga practitioner. After this, you’ll be invited to join our black belt course.
