For the years they start going places alone.
Teenagers are not big children, and teaching them as though they are does not work.
By this age they are travelling the city on their own, on the subway after dark, navigating situations you are not there for. The concerns are different from a nine-year-old's and so is the training.
Teen classes work on real judgement as much as technique: reading a situation, knowing when to leave, handling pressure from people their own age, and what to do if leaving stops being an option. The physical skills are the adult system, scaled properly rather than diluted.
For ages 6 to 14, our Combat Club programme is the right place to start.

Capability, and the judgement to use it.
Awareness that isn't anxiety
Reading a street, a platform, a party. Taught as a practical skill rather than something to be frightened about, because frightened teenagers stop listening.
Handling pressure from peers
Most of what a teenager actually faces is social, not physical. Standing your ground and walking away are both trained.
Real defenses, properly taught
The adult curriculum, scaled to their size and strength. Drilled with partners at controlled intensity, in a room run by coaches who have taught teenagers before.
